Tutoring Thanks

This thank you was sent to our English Tutoring directors from an Asian law student. The group meets on Friday nights.

Dear Martin and Machiko:
Thank you so so so much for what you've done for me during this semester, for which I am really really grateful! You are the kindest people I've ever seen in the world. I feel so lucky to know you through Friday English Class, through which I not only practiced my English, more importantly, I become to know more about the Bible and God, which won't happen without you. Although I am leaving for China few days later, I think the unforgettable experience in the Tenth Church will stay on my mind forever, and  I will always remember on the other side of the earth, there are a group of nice and interesting people teaching international students English and Bible!!!!

We Is Got Him

Truman Capote move over (well, do the best you can). Tenth member Carrie Hagen has the next true crime book sensation. Check out this review of We Is Got Him scheduled to be in bookstores this July.

Fiscal Fitness Elder

You have heard of Larry Burkett and Ron Blue and, more recently, Dave Ramsey - Christian men known for presenting financial counsel on being wise stewards of our finances. Did you know that we have our own experienced teacher in this area. In fact, he travels the country giving fiscal fitness seminars. He is one of your elders, Bryce Bartruff, who is Senior Director and Chief Operating Officer of American Missionary Fellowship. Check out his website.

Motion Pictures, Moving Stories

You have seen videos about Tenth and about ministries related to our church. The producer behind those videos is Craig Claudin. Craig now has his own production business. Check out his website to see his work. Those of you with ministries and churches should consider using his skills in this area. He is also available for weddings and other personal events.

Short-term teacher in Asia needed

One of our global partners has a need for a short-term teacher for their family this spring.  They are attending a 2-week language conference in Malaysia in April and are looking for someone to help with the homeschooling of their four children (under 12) who will be with them.
Please contact skim(at)tenth.org if you are interested or would like more info.

Word from Japan

The devastation in Japan is horrific and a clear call for prayer for that nation. Against that backdrop, we are relieved to receive this word from Michael Oh: "All [Christ Bible Seminary/Institute] students & staff are safe. They were very shaken though. Nagoya area probably was in the 5 - 5.5 range on the Richter scale. Unbelievable number of aftershocks."

Pray for an effective, compassionate response by Christians.

Cat-sitter needed

One of our global partners is looking for a cat-sitter for a week while they are away at a conference in Pittsburgh from 3/19 to 3/27/11.

They have a tortoiseshell cat named Suzy who is gentle and playful.  Litter box and any needed amenities will be provided.  This cat is from Africa!
Please contact skim(at)tenth.org if interested.

YoungLives

Women, here is a ministry you may be interested getting involved in. The director attended my church when we both were in Florida.)

YoungLives is a relational ministry where women have the opportunity and privilege of coming alongside teen moms during their greatest time of need and telling them about God’s amazing love and forgiveness.  As we teach these girls God’s truths and extend God’s grace to them we realize that we are impacting two generations for eternity!  In YoungLives we are watching God change teen moms in Philadelphia, one girl at a time.

Senior Artists

Apparently artists do not retire, as the latest showing at Luella Tripp's gallery demonstrates. One proud nephew (Matthew White) wants you to check out Jan Johnson's works in particular.

You know, by the way, that ministers also do not retire. They just go out to pastor.

Reparando, the Movie

This email came from Dave Baggett, who is a PCA church planter in Eastern Delaware County.

Hello!
I just wanted to let you know of a movie playing this coming Tuesday at the Trocadero Theater downtown (1003 Arch) at 7:30.  It is about God's redemptive work in Guatemala and I was privileged enough to participate in the filming of this project two years ago.  It is a documentary-style film highlighting some powerful stories of redemption in some of the worst places in Latin America.  Tickets are $10 and you can purchase them at:
www.reparandomovie.com/screenings
You can also purchase the DVD at the reparando website.
www.reparandomovie.com
Please spread the word!  Thanks for your consideration!
Hope to see you this Tuesday!

God's Visible Presence

From The Jesus Gospel, by Liam Goligher.

Love for others is an outworking of the gospel. It is seeing what God has done for me in spite of all my unworthiness and then my treating others with the same grace with which I have been treated myself. He loved us when we were still sinners. He did not withdraw from us but drew near to us. This transforms my attitude to difficult people. It makes me patient with those who do not grasp the Bible's teaching but still struggle with doubts, sensitive to those who struggle with sinful choices.

True unity and oneness and active love among Jesus' people are the only visible evidence God will give to people in our day of his presence in the world. And as our love for one another is active, actually reaching out to others, making sacrifices for others, serving others, so people see something of that great love with which he has loved us.

Spring Ahead

Although it is not spring, nevertheless, spring ahead one hour Saturday night before going to bed, if you wish to be in church on time. Who is it that keeps moving the DST up earlier each year?

Funny Paper

So, it's been one of those days. You need to cheer up. Have you tried tearing paper? It works wonders as this real life practitioner demonstrates.

Videos for Ghana

Imagine open screenings of Christian films in villages around Accra. The movie pulls the crowd in and they linger for an evangelistic message, then Christians schooled in sharing their faith follow up with those who respond.

That's the dream of Rev. Bernard Sachie, our friend who works with African Enterprise in Ghana. He plans to launch just such a ministry and has written asking our help. Do you have Christian videos gathering dust that he could put to use?

Pray for the success of this venture and if you can help, please contact Terri at ttaylor(at)tenth.org
