September is Emergency Preparedness Month. The Red Cross and the City of Philadelphia are sponsoring emergency preparedness workshops in several districts at 7 PM

There will be a big kick-off ceremony this coming Wednesday 9/3 with Mayor Nutter as well as Curtis Jones at the Target Dept Store 4000 City Av (where the hotel used to be, near Presidential Blvd TGI Fridays, Holiday Inn, etc.) They will give away 100 Go Bags and other goodies.
The workshops will offer light refreshments and door prizes as well on info on evacuation planning for the families and sign-up for the text messages from Emergency Test Alert System.
Volunteer sign-up day is Sept. 15 (a Monday) at Love Park.
