Paul Jacobs

Paul Jacobs who gave the inaugural organ concert last fall, sent this notice to Paul Jones of a radio interview for tomorrow. Note his complement of our singing.

"I still think about the wonderful time we had in September at Tenth. Does the congregation still love their new organ? Never before have I heard such heart-felt singing of Ein feste Burg, or any other chorale for that matter. I wanted to let you know that this Saturday from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM my interview with Jill Pasternak will be aired on on WRTI's program, "Crossover."
If you know of anyone who might be interested in tuning in, please do share the information."

Psalm 6 Prayer

Lord, if you would not hear my plea, what would I do? If you would not accept my prayer, to whom could I turn? Your wrath would be just, for my sins are before me. But if I receive only your rebuke and do not receive your grace, then I must die. Already grief weighs me down, but to think I must bear my troubles alone without your gracious favor…then I am undone...

This is the opening to this morning's prayer based on Psalm 6. For the full prayer and to read others similarly based on the Psalms, click here.

AA Miles Needed

Michael Oh, a Tenth partner in Japan, hopes to return to the U.S. with his family for the summer.

He has a unique opportunity to reserve 5 seats on American Airlines, but must act by Monday, 1:00 p.m EST. He is looking for five people who can donate 65,000 American Airline miles for him to the tickets. He would need each person to contact American Airlines with his flight info and use their 65,000 miles to get one of the tickets. Mileage amounts under 65,000 miles won't help in this situation.

If anyone can help, contact Michael at ohfamily@gmail.com.

Don't Blow That Nose!

If you plan to go on a short-term trip, this article may save you some embarrassment.

Rental Needed

A Brazilian Presbyterian pastor and his wife plan on living in the Philadelphia area for a year while they attend CCEF in order to receive their certificate in Biblical Counseling. They are looking for a house or apartment that they could rent for a year starting in August, at a reasonable, if not cheap price. Preferably, they would like something not terribly far from CCEF. They also need a car to buy. Nothing fancy, just serviceable and as inexpensive as possible. If you can help, contact Lillian Hoobyar at CrossWorld (Lillian.hoobyar@crossworld.org).

Sunday Preaching

From the Park Street Church (Boston) website regarding this Sunday:

At all four services. Get ready for an extreme makeover! The Bicentennial Guest Speaker series continues today with the Senior Minister of Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. Need a change in your life? Hear a message about a criminal transported from shame to Paradise (am), or a reflection on fashion statements from the Garden to glory (pm). Jesus makes it happen. Invite your friends to hear our next guest speaker!

Hhmm...I need to keep up with such descriptions. How about this...

Are the streets too dark in the city? Learn from Paul Tripp Sunday morning how we can be a thousand points of light in the city and brighten up the place! You can be better than a neon sign! Are you being provoked? Are you letting the Philly attitude get you down? Find out Sunday evening the blessing of being provoked! And yo! bring a friend with an attitude with you!

Leaving on a Jet Plane

The team to Liberia leaves today. They are gathering at the church this morning and heading for the airport at 1:25 p.m. Yes, 1:25; not 1:24 or 1:26. Safe in the hands of Phil Beauford, their driver, they arrive at Newark at 3:30 p.m. That's 3:30, not 3:29 or 3:31. Then they fly off to Brussels at 6:30 p.m. and do not return to us until March 16. Keep them in your prayers. You will find a picture with names in yesterday's posting.

Whether or not you're able to attend, please be in prayer for the conference. Pray that God would use the sessions and workshops this weekend to better prepare us to reach out to our city!

DMC Resources

My study leave was devoted to developing a website that collects all my writings, plus other resources for Christians and ministers to use. One feature is a daily prayer based on Scripture, usually a Psalm. You will find the Scripture passage on the home page with a link to the prayer. For the past four days I have been going through the Psalms and am on Psalm 4.

You can also find the Proverbs devotions. And I will continue to post articles. The latest is an essay by Marvin Olasky reflecting on the parable of the prodigal son...more

I'm Back

My, my...it is so peaceful here in the building. It helps to slip in before the staff gets here! Guess I better get to the 385 emails waiting me.

The Liberia team needs YOU!

To pray--for safety in travel, for spiritual preparation for service, for opportunities to bless the people they meet, for wisdom and patience in times of unexpected delays or difficulties, and for strong team relationships.

To give--if you have been thinking about supporting the team financially but haven't gotten around to it yet, they still need about $6,000 to cover their individual and team expenses. Checks can be made payable to Tenth, with "Liberia short-term trip" on the memo line.
