Reporting from the Christian Community Development Conference.

Two thousand Christians are at the Miami Convention Center tonight. They are involved in either urban, suburban, or rural mercy ministry--reaching out in word and deed where God has planted them. The theme: Seek the shalom of the city. The first talk focused on the need for us to have inner shalom so the love of Christ flows from us to the broken and brokenhearted. There is great excitement here.

Why Did the Chicken...

In the interest of addressing theological concerns by the ministers of the church, I will from time to time post the pressing questions of our day. Today's question is: Why did the chicken cross the road?

Phil Ryken: This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Paul Tripp: This is a heart issue. The chicken, in his quest for something more in life, thinks he will find fulfillment in what's across the road.

Carroll Wynne: Parents, if you would just take time to listen to the young chicken, he would tell you.

Bruce McDowell: I am recruiting people now for a short-term trip to find out and to share the gospel with the chicken.

Marion Clark: If he's not causing problems for me, he can go wherever he wants.

Jonathan Olsen: Yo! He's crossing the road to get to the game. GO PHILLIES!

Talking Turkey

Want to do some advance reading for our upcoming Global Outreach Conference? Here is a great site where ten Turks, all former Muslims, tell how God brought them to faith in Christ.

Want more? Christianity Today published some relevant pieces this year: "Jesus in Turkey" talks about the current growth of Christianity in Turkey and includes an interview with a pastor in Istanbul. "Bearing the Silence of God" relates the reflections of a Turkish believer on the persecuted church.

Andrew Adam Herche born 10/18

This note from Luke and Deb Herche:
Andrew Adam Herche

Born 10/18/08
10 lbs 5 oz
21 1/4 inches long
14 inch round head!

Yes, that is a long, curley baby mohawk in the picture.

His name comes from the first called disciple in John's gospel & the first man (the first human prophet, priest, & king). It means "manly man" or just "man man" so he is doubley 'the man'. And we pray that he will learn to follow the second Adam & become a new man in his inner man. (okay, I'll stop.)

We should all be headed home from the hospital today [10/20].

Checks for his college fund can be mailed directly to us (hey, it was worth a shot).
