Two more birthdays...

Kim Frey is celebrating her birthday in hospital with Adaire, her daughter, who just arrived this morning! Adaire couldn't wait any longer (just 29 1/2 weeks old!) when she heard all of the excitement going on over the holidays and has been doing flips since New Years Day. Congratulations to Kim and (sleepy) Dave.

7+7+7

Happy Birthday today to Liam Goligher. To keep such matters simple, Liam married Christine whose birthday was last Friday, January 7. One of the daughters has a birthday next Friday, January 21.

G&P Anniversary

Happy (6 month) Anniversary, Grace and Peace Community Church!
Today we mark our 6 month anniversary of having worship services - it seems like yesterday (and in some ways years ago) that we began to be a worshipping community.
God has been so rich in His blessings to us!  Please join me in thanking Him for His past faithfulness and please join me in praying for even greater spiritual fruit in us and through us as we continue to know and serve our Jesus!
Grace and Peace,
Jonathan Olsen

Bible Study Course

Perhaps as you started reading through your Bible again this new year, you've entertained the idea of getting some help in just how to study the Bible. If you fall in this category and would like help in learning how to study the Bible, The Philadelphia Access Center will be offering a course to that end. Joe Welch will be facilitating a course entitled "Knowing Scripture". The class will be using a 12 lesson DVD series and book by R. C. Sproul with the same title. The cost of the course is $15 for which you will receive the book and course outline. The course will begin on Saturday February 19th at 9:30 till around 11:00. If you are interested, call Joe Welch at 215 389-1985 x25, or email at jwelch@philaccess.org. Please register as soon as possible. Seating is limited and the seats are filling up fast.

Tutoring Opportunity

Marion,
We had an inquiry from an Asian woman who needs help with her English. She lives and works in the city. She has excellent English but has entered a work environment recently that is less tolerant of her accent, intonation, and occasional errors. Her English is a little advanced for our classes, and she is particularly looking for someone to talk to for one hour a week or once every two weeks to help correct her pronunciation. I wondered if you might put this on your blog and see if someone would volunteer? I can be emailed.

Place for Rent

My wife, Meghan, and I are interested in moving into a beautiful place we found in University City but we wouldn't be able to afford it alone. We just need somebody to rent it with us for this coming semester (Spring 2011) and move out in May/June. They would have their own floor with three bedrooms and a full bath - perfect for one, two, or three single people or a couple (they would have quite a lot of privacy). Anyone interested should email me. Thanks. Matt White

Waiting for him to get home.

When my son was on the way home from college we were eagerly awaiting his arrival. So is the Lord. We read it on Sunday from Psalm 116 – “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
Last Thursday, Tom Mason went home to be with the Lord. Tom was the father of Karen Lengkeek and Karl Mason who live in parish three. Karen shared with me the strong faith of her father and how he will be missed by her children, but…what a legacy!

New Music Director?

You may have thought yesterday that Paul Jones upped his game in directing the choir and musicians. That is because he learned we are looking at a possible replacement. Check him out. Be sure to watch through the whole performance.

Now What?

On Sunday, January 9, the congregation voted to call Liam Goligher to be its next Senior Minister. That now leads to further steps before he can actually take the position. Our presbytery, the Philadelphia Presbytery, must now examine him and vote on approving the call. That should take place at the March 12 meeting. For that to happen, a committee of presbytery will examine his theological views, probably sometime in February, and then present him to the presbytery in March. Trusting that he receives approval, presbytery will form a commission to install him as Senior Minister, I would think in May when he moves here. It is at that service that he becomes the Senior Minister.

I am pleased to announce that today the congregation of Tenth Presbyterian Church has voted to call Dr. Liam Goligher to be our next Senior Minister.
