Gearing up

Thursday night over forty people gathered at Tenth--teachers, nurses, business owners, you name it--all preparing for the breakout sessions on October 14. That's the kick off to our new vocational ministry. Whatever you do during the week there's a group for you. We even have groups for retirees and homemakers.

What an opportunity to explore with people doing similar work what it means to live out our Christian commitment in that context. For registration and details, browse here.

Learn the Lord's Prayer in ASL

Come for a time of fellowship, learning and prayer as we study the Lord's Prayer in American Sign Language. We meet on second Sundays 10/9, 11/13, and 12/11 from 5–6 PM.  We will conclude on December 11 with Christmas Carols and cookies! Email tenthcsn@msn.com to sign up or for more information.

Have a Room to Rent?

Then contact Vivian at 856-332-7777. See her note below:
I'm not a member of Tenth, but I've been blessed by the sermonaudio's from Tenth. I am a born again Christian looking for a room during my Americorps service program. I start in November but any time before or after would work. Due to the fact I can't work during my service, I could pay a maximum of 300 month and/or nanny, houseclean, etc. Thanks. Grace and Peace, Vivian

Vocational Ministry

Jeff Jue begins his new role as Director of Vocational Ministry officially on Saturday, October 1. But we already have him working. He has written the Tenth Press article for this coming Sunday about his work and about the kick-off event of October14 - a seminar featuring his fellow Westminster professor Bill Edgar. The address will be "Your Calling: It All Counts." You can register now at this link, or if baffled by the electronic system, you can always fall back on the old system of calling in to the church.

Small Groups Made Easy

Christy Corbett is working hard to make joining a small group easy. Check out the new small group site that lets you see all the open small groups in the church and to request contact by a group leader. If you have questions about small groups, about joining or starting one, email or call me. I am presently providing oversight for small groups.

Awaiting Execution

The probable execution of a Christian is a call for us to keep in prayer our brothers and sisters living in countries where it is illegal to become a follower of Christ.

Title Change

At Tuesday night’s Session meeting, we changed Carroll’s title. (Such things happen when you travel out of the country.) His new title is Minister of Pastoral Care, which better reflects all that he does rather than the present title of Minister of Family. Carroll ministers to families, but he does a lot more in pastoring everyone and anyone. It is Carroll who is assisting the parish elders and parish councils to provide care in their parishes. Carroll is the one who will help persons get the counseling they need. He heads the pre-marriage class and leads the Kingdom Discipleship Commission. And he assures that you will see at least one minister smiling on Sunday.

Hosts for Hospitals

I recall former members of Tenth, Steven and Deborah Fowlke, periodically hosting out-of-town hospital patients or family of patients. As you know, people may come from around the nation to receive care. The organization that makes such hosting possible is Hosts for Hospitals. Click here for its website and here for a local news report about the work. Perhaps your home may a home-away-from-home for patients and their family members.

Acoustic Testing

I have been forbidden from entering the sanctuary today. Yes, I the Executive Minister! It seems "they" are doing acoustic sound tests as part of the process for installing a new sound system. That work is still likely to be a 2012 completion, but the initial steps are being taken.

MCO Healthcare Fellowship Lunch

MCO Healthcare Fellowship will meet this Sunday, October 2 at 12:45 in Fellowship Hall. We will hear about the life-changing programs of Summer Medical Institute (SMI) Philly and Texas and their work this past summer. Come enjoy lunch and fellowship!

Ministry Funds Request

Dear Trustees,

I would like to have my ministry expense account increased to add a new, exciting responsibility to my job description. Read here for explanation. I would keep the boundaries of Girard to Washington between the rivers. Even so, that will keep me busy and could be expensive.

Your faithful servant,
Marion Clark

Room wanted now!

A member's brother Nat needs to rent a room starting Thursday, Sept. 29, preferably near Drexel Hill, for a month. He can pay $450 for the month. Please call Nat on his cell @ 443-902-1952.

Helpful Audio Interviews

MARK, Inc., a ministry of Chuck and Sharon Betters (Glasgow, DE PCA), has developed helpful audio interviews on the topics of adultery, alcoholism, autistic spectrum, breast cancer, coming home from war, dying with dignity, EMT/first responders, loss of a loved one, and terminal illness. To listen or download, click here.

Induction

This coming Friday night, Jonny McGreevy will be "inducted" as pastor of Greenisland Baptist Church. Click here for an interview with the new pastor. If you missed our Tenth Press article about him, you will also find it on the opening page of their website. Carroll Wynne and Dora McFarland have flown over for the occasion.

Did You Hear the Angels Cheering?

At the 9:00am service on Sunday, Roland R was baptized and welcomed as a new member of Tenth. He looked just like anyone else--quite handsome actually in his suit and tie. You would never know the spiritual surgery God performed to bring this sinner to salvation.

Because Roland was referred to me for counseling by one of the homeless shelters, I have had the divine opportunity to disciple him ever since he got out of prison in 2010. Rejoice with me and the angels for this brother whose motto is, "Let God be your best friend."

A Reminder to Pray for the Police

From a recent article in the Inquirer: “When you see a line-of-duty death, there’s all this support out there for the families. There’s nothing in place for the relatives of an officer who ends his life. We want to bring hope to these children, let them know we haven’t forgotten.”
