Day of Prayer

This Sunday is the quarterly Day of Prayer. I hope to see many of you in the prayer meeting that will be held at 9:00 in Fellowship Hall. Carroll Wynne will lead the prayer time for 11:00 in the 315 Building, first floor.

I'm not one who likes to advertise worship or prayer meetings as "fun" or "exiting" or "dynamic." Neither worship nor prayer is entertainment. But tomorrow...well, we will spend the whole time counting "one by one" the blessings of God for us personally and as a church. It will be difficult not to have fun. Start preparing now - name the blessings God has given to you, and then come share them with the rest of us.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

New Hope Liberia Gifts

If you're going to stay home...

John Piper once commented that the Christian has three options in life: "Go, send, or disobey." God's call throughout Scripture to reach all peoples with the good news is for all believers.

So what do you do if you're called to stay home and send others? Justin Long just wrote a great blog post on this. He calls us to be senders--people committed to long-term work and long-term workers, including administrators and mobilizers.

So if you're not going, how are you sending?

Joyce Smyth

I just received this notice from Kathy Brewer-Smyth regarding Tom's mother:

After a courageous battle with cancer, my mother-in-law Joyce Smyth has passed on to glory. She has been the mother figure to many, including me throughout the extended illness of my own mother in recent years.
Funeral arrangements are being made through McCrery Funeral Home and her church, Green Hill Presbyterian Church, 3112 Kennett Pike (Rt 52), Wilmington, Delaware, tentatively most likely for either Saturday December 4, or Sat Dec 11 at 11AM followed by burial in the Smyth section of the adjoining churchyard.

John Mayhew

I received word this morning that Tenth attender John Mayhew died this morning peacefully after a long illness. When decisions are made regarding services, I will post the information. I visited with John last night, and as is typical of a child of God at the end of his time, he spoke with confidence of the blood shed for him by Jesus Christ. When I asked what Scripture he would like read, he directed me to Psalm 103, "Bless the Lord, O my soul..." When asked about a hymn, he recited, "There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel's veins. And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains."

Amen.
