Jim Favino, who teaches English literature at Delaware County Christian School, will be presenting Charles Dickens at this Sunday's 9:00 class, Reading Literature as Christians. The class meets in the 315 building, third floor rear. Do you think it will be the worst of classes and the best of classes? I am too umble to give my own opinion.
Better Than Gold
Proverbs 16:16
How much better to get wisdom than gold!
To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
Gold and silver are good for providing financial security. As long as one possesses these metals, he can feel confident that he has something of value if…

The King’s Favor
Proverbs 16:15
In the light of a king's face there is life,
and his favor is like the clouds that bring the spring rain.
If the previous proverb impresses upon us the danger of being under the thunder storm of our King’s wrath, this one stirs us with the refreshment of being under his favor. To know God’s favor is to know life. And that is what Christ came to bring – life to the fullest (John 10:10). He has removed our guilt so that our King looks upon us with divine favor.

The Church Jesus Prayed For
Global partner Michael Cassidy has a new book out, The Church Jesus Prayed For, on Jesus' high priestly prayer of John 17. One amazing way God has blessed the nations through this scripture can be seen in the town of Piet Retief, now known as Mkhondo, in South Africa, where there has been great reconciliation and repentance as a result of women praying through John 17 for the past 14 years. You can pick up a copy of Michael's book through the African Enterprise website.
The King’s Wrath
Proverbs 16:14
A king's wrath is a messenger of death,
and a wise man will appease it.
It is wisdom to recognize danger and to take measures for safety. We recognize the signs of a thunder storm and take appropriate cover. So we should do the same when we observe the wrath of one who has power over us. Take measures to appease one with authority, especially when his wrath is a just wrath – i.e. we are guilty of wrongdoing.

Speaking What Is Right
Proverbs 16:13
Righteous lips are the delight of a king,
and he loves him who speaks what is right.
Do you wish to give delight to your King? Then let your speech be that which promotes justice and good. Speak the truth in love, as you are taught in Ephesians 4:15. How can you know what to speak?

The Purpose of Thrones
Proverbs 16:12
It is an abomination to kings to do evil,
for the throne is established by righteousness.
It is terrible enough to do evil. Man was made in the image of God, and every wicked act is a reminder of the great Fall. But to do evil from a position of authority magnifies evil’s perversion. Whether one be a king or a low-level manager, such positions are created to accomplish good and to restrain wrong-doing. To use these positions to accomplish evil and to punish good is truly an abomination.
