An Inscription
Another selection from James Boice's writings. Has anyone seen what he describes?
In the city of Philadelphia, where I live, there is a beautiful drive that leads out of the city along the eastern bank of the Schuylkill River. Along the drive there is a section of the riverbank lined with boathouses, called Boathouse Row; and across from Boathouse Row there is a statue of a pilgrim with a Bible under his arm. Many who pass the statue by car never see more than the pilgrim. But if a person is on foot and is exploring the riverbank, he soon finds a stream that empties into the Schuylkill near the pilgrim, as well as a trail that winds along it. If he follows this trail up over Sedgley Hill toward Brewery Town, he comes upon the source of the spring. There, over the spring’s source, he sees an inscription once placed by the city government—“Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again.”

Volunteer Coordinator Position
I work on the board of a local non-profit that provides food for clients in the Chestnut Hill area. There is job opening for a Volunteer Coordinator. The hours are from 8:30am to 12:30 pm, Monday to Friday. For more information contact Sena McInnes.
Spring Forward
That is what you will do Saturday night or early Sunday morning, unless you are living in Arizona. Don't walk in during the middle of the sermon this Sunday because you failed to turn your clocks one hour ahead.
Group Bible Study
Boice on the value of group Bible study:
Between 1963 and 1966, when I was studying at the University of Basel in Switzerland, my wife and I were invited to attend a Bible study group that met on Friday evenings. It was a small group at first, but it grew. By the time we had gone through Acts and Romans together and through several other books of the Bible, the numbers had doubled and several people had become Christians. Along with the Bible study grew personal commitment to Christ and a concern for others.
In time the group began to meet on Sunday mornings. A church was founded, and the original Bible study, which was in English, was supplemented by another conducted in German. Soon there was a noon group for secretaries. Over the years people left the church to return to their homes in various parts of the world, and they founded groups there. At last count I knew of eleven such Bible study groups, all of which grew out of the original group in Basel. Through them many more are coming to a deeper knowledge of the Scriptures.

Young Boice
I preached my first sermon when I was thirteen years old, and the text I preached on was the one to which I have now come in this verse-by-verse exposition of Ephesians (6:10-12). I preached that first sermon with visual aids. I played football at the time. So I brought my football equipment into the pulpit and held it up as I developed the parts of the sermon. When I talked about the “breastplate of righteousness” I held up my shoulder pads. When I talked about the “helmet of salvation” I held up my helmet. So it went through the other parts of the Christian soldier’s armor. I can visualize how that sermon went, because I had my notes taped to the back of the pieces of my uniform.

Fellowship Hall
Girls (age 5 and up) are invited to Sparrows on Saturday, March 13, 1:00-3:00pm, in Fellowship Hall. Sparrows is an intergenerational ministry for girls and women. All teens and women are especially encouraged to come and befriend a younger girl and participate in all the fun!
