Name That Sermon

I know, like football, you shouldn't look past the next Sunday sermon, but since I will be preaching, it's okay. The sermon title is "Yet God." Now, do you know by the title what sermon of Dr. Boice I am giving a nod to? Only long-time Tenth vets would have heard it, but you may have spotted it in a commentary. My wife knows because of her Bible study.

Delancey lobby copier out of service through December 22

This is to let you know that the lobby copier will be out of service over the weekend. The technician had to order a part (and it ran for awhile with a rubber band). But they can’t come and service the machine again until the part comes in Monday (and we don’t know what time of the day).

You may want to plan ahead and copy elsewhere for this weekend. The fourth floor copier is functioning, but you may need to anticipate heavy use. I will load it up with paper and have more ready on the shelves there.

Prayer and Play

Marion,

Just a reminder that this Saturday's prayer breakfast and playtime with the Lionels is an inclusive event. Men of all religions are welcome and encouraged to attend. We even reach out to men from American Flyer backgrounds.

Note: you must pray before you play. We shamelessly promote a 'pray before you play' culture.

Please RSVP at pjreimold@verizon.net if you would like to attend. (8:30 AM this Saturday at the Reimolds in Havertown.)

Left Field Psalm

"I love Psalm 91 : 'He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. ' I love Psalm 40, as well. Lately, if I'm strapped for time, I can at least read one of the Psalms. I really enjoy them. But the 91st Psalm, I'll rattle it off in my head. "

CCA/SHCS Choir to Perform at Liberty Place

Come support CCA/SHCS students as they perform at Liberty Place on Wednesday, December 16th at 12 noon. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to minister through meaningful Christmas songs for those who come to the food court during their lunch break. You'll find the choir with their music director, Ruth Naomi Floyd, at the Christmas tree!

The Plight of Turkish Christians

Two recently published pieces help us understand the difficulties facing Turkish Christians.

Christianity Today reports Turkey's Ministry of Education has introduced a new textbook for grade schoolers which warns them to beware of Christians because their activities pose a "threat to national unity by destroying national and cultural values through converting people to another religion." The text "warns children of the subversive aims of missionaries" and gives "tips on how to recognise their activities." You can read the article here.

Compass Direct publicizes a report filed by the Alliance of Protestant Churches of Turkey detailing how it is nearly impossible for a congregation to have its meeting place zoned as a "Place of Worship." Without that zoning, their meetings are illegal. To read the article, click here.

Play It Again!

Dear Paul,

The Advent Carol, sung by the Men's Choir yesterday, must become a Tenth tradition. Please see that it is sung every year. The only change is to double the number of men. The combining of "Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus" with "Lo, He Comes with Clouds Descending," brought forth clearly our joy in the first advent and our hope in the second to come.

Executive Minister

6 - 0

So, I went to the diaconal Christmas party Saturday night at the Warburtons. To my pleasure I discovered a ping pong table in the basement.

"Bert, (eh, eh, eh) care for a friendly game of ping pong?"

Two games we played. Two games he went down.

Gus comes over and wants to get in.

Two games we played. Two games he went down.

Then, Phil "I can't resist a challenge" Ryken came in.

Two games we played. Two games he went down.

I was told that Patrick Addo was the man who can't be beat. Let it be known that I approached him with a challenge. He had "to eat" first and then conveniently was busy the rest of the evening.
