Maria Tarruella’s Exhibit at Philadelphia’s White Stone Gallery

White Stone Gallery is pleased to present Hope, an exhibition of new works by Maria Tarruella, a contemporary artist of Madrid, Spain. The exhibition of layered mixed media paintings includes three of her large-scale works in which Tarruella expresses her faith with the awareness of small things becoming a sanctifying source of hope. Tarruella has become a significant artist to watch in Europe, with collectors and museum representatives traveling to Philadelphia for her Hope exhibit.

The exhibit will run February 27 – March 29, with an opening reception on February 27 from 7:00-9:00 PM and a gallery talk on February 28 from 4:00-5:00 PM. White Stone Gallery, which opened in 2002, represents art that reflects faith. The gallery is located at 4219 Main Street in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. For more information and gallery hours, visit their website at www.whitestonegallery.com.

170 Women in Need of Rest...

Are gathering on Saturday. Any more of you out there?

This Saturday, February 21, join your sisters for a restful time learning about resting! Our TenthWomen Annual Conference kicks off with registration at 9:00 am, followed by a wonderful day with Stacy Bartholomew and Alisa Coffey. Preregistration and lunch registration is now closed, but walk-ins are certainly welcome! You'll have all of the privileges, just not a pre-printed name badge...

On a personal note, Alisa Coffey is one of my housemates (our bedrooms are adjacent, in fact). The last couple evenings we've heard a preview of several beautiful hymn arrangements for harp, and you will absolutely love the music she'll be playing! :)

Hosts Needed during UMC

There are some people flying in from Tennessee to attend Tenth's Urban Ministry Conference on March 6-8. If you might be able to offer a bed or even floorspace (they're not picky), please contact Anne (adavies@tenth.org). Please consider if you might be able to help Tenth extend hospitality in this way.

Hosts needed for touring choir

I am the tour manager for the Jamestown College Concert Choir, and this March we plan to be in Philadelphia, PA. We will be doing a concert at the Church of the Holy Trinity on Friday, March 13th. Normally when we go on tour, it is customary for members of the choir to stay with host families from the congregation. In the case of CHT, they are unable to find families for our entire choir. I was contacting you to see if you would be willing to ask members of your church if they would be interested in hosting students for the evening. Host families can choose whether they would like to host men/women and whether they would like to host two or four singers. So far CHT has managed to find housing for about 20 students and our choir has 60 members. By no means am I asking you to make up the difference, even one or two volunteers would be a help! Also, your congregation is more than welcome to attend the concert if they wish. It's at 7:30 pm and the address of the church is 1904 Walnut Street. If you'd like more information on the hosting, or if you have any volunteers, feel free to email me at wheinzen@jc.edu. You may also call my phone, 218-244-7999. Thank-you very much!

We only need housing for the night of Friday the 13th. As for meals, CHT (where we are doing our concert) will provide us dinner on Friday evening. The only meal host families will have to provide is breakfast on Saturday morning. Basically, what we need from a host family is:
  • Pick us up after the concert on Friday (obviously they can attend if they would like, otherwise it will be done just before 9 pm)
  • Students spend the night (two-four singers per home)
  • Breakfast Saturday morning
  • Drop us off at CHT around 7:30 am (I'll have an exact time fairly soon for whomever is interested)

Piano Recital

Sarah Seaman's final recital for her master's degree from Temple will be on March 4, 2009. It will be held at at 5:15 pm in Rock Hall Auditorium (intersection of Cecil B. Moore & Broad St) at Temple University. The program includes pieces by Beethoven, Mompou, Ravel, and Brahms.
