Please pray for all of the small groups and social events that we run. Pray that discussion is edifying and relationships forged between students or between leaders and students would be used for growth and conversion. Please pray for the Temple Welcome Table we're running on Temple's campus today!
Hatred stirs up strife,
but love covers all offenses.
Let me ask you today: In the next 24 hours, will you commit to prayer that your
words and actions will promote peace? There is a likely chance that someone
will say or do something offensive, either to you or in your company. Will you
cover over the offense? There will be opportunity for you to stir up strife
through a careless remark.

For
those in Parish Five not participating in a Bible study, I would like to
encourage you to attend one of the small group Bible studies in the
parish. The Session and the Parish Elders especially take very seriously
our duty to teach, encourage, and build up the members of the congregation here
at Tenth. Read more »

Proverbs 10:10 Whoever winks the eye causes trouble,
but a babbling fool will come to ruin.
"Winks the eye" refers to one who plans mischief. He deceives his
neighbor, perhaps in collusion with another. Even if harm is not intended, the
winker may be making someone else the butt of a joke. The babbling fool appears
again with the same result of verse 8: he comes to ruin. The babbler thinks he
is spouting wisdom, winning respect for himself, when all he is really doing is
exposing his foolishness. He cannot see himself as others see him.

Ever notice how many strollers there are downtown? The under-five population has exploded and preschool programs are in short supply in Center City.
Tenth would love to serve our neighbors by providing another option for high-quality early childhood education and is actively considering starting a preschool in September 2013.
At this point in our planning process, the preschool planning committee has lots of logistical decisions to consider. They are looking for input from parents likely to enroll their children. If you have a child you might enroll, please take a moment to fill out this brief survey.
Will Spokes and his family have arrived! I saw Will briefly yesterday hauling up boxes of books to his office. I don't expect to see too much of him this week as he moves his family into a new home. But look for him this coming Sunday. Let's see, I think I'll sign him up to be on the platform for every service. (The perks of having authority over staff!)
I can't make his wife Megan or his sons - Liam, Elliott, Henry, and Oliver - sit up there; so you will have to look more carefully for them.
Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.
David Skeel's book about corporate scandals, Icarus in the Boardroom,
could be regarded as an exposition of this proverb. A man rises into the sky
through energy and innovation, only to eventually fall because his pride,
ambition, and greed drive him to compromise his integrity and commonsense.
Crooked ways will be found out, if only because the sinful impulses that take
us along such ways blind us to the greatest danger of all - our own
inadequacies. Always on the lookout for the dangers in our path, we neglect to
look inside to see the dangers being fomented in our own hearts - pride, anger,
greed, etc. Read more »

Here is an interesting bit of hymn history. A survey was made of the 300 hymns most often reprinted in 175 hymnbooks between 1737 to 1960. I will list the top ten. Before you look at them, do you think you can name three of them?
The wise of heart will receive commandments,
but a babbling fool will come to ruin.
This is a recurring theme in Proverbs and the basis upon which the proverbs are
offered. Solomon wrote in chapter 1:5ff, "Let the wise hear and increase
in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a
proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles...fools despise
wisdom and instruction."
