Giving Women Hope

I see I am not the only one with a new website. Check out the site of Tenth member Arlita Winston.

DMC Resources

This is Marion reporting from sunny Naples, FL. I am wrapping up my study leave work (Ginger and her parents will attest that I spent 8-10 hours a day working). The weather was a bit cooler than anticipated. We wore wind breakers in the morning on the beach!

You can check out the fruit of my labors at DMC Resources. It is a website that contains all my sermons and writings I could find, plus additional resources. I hope you will find it helpful to you. Church officers will find a page devoted to materials for them.

The highlight of our trip was celebrating the 100th birthday of my Uncle Marion in South Carolina. Here is picture of him with me, Jean, and Ginger.

It's Not Too Late....

...to register for the Urban Ministry Conference next weekend (March 6–8). There will be a registration table set up in Reception Hall on Sunday, so you can register after any of the worship services.
Scholarships are available, so please do not let cost be an issue!
Hope to see you next weekend!

Email Anne (adavies@tenth.org) with any questions.

CLC Bookcenter Cafe

CLC Bookcenter is in the beginning stages of planning a Christian cafe inside their bookcenter at 8th and Chestnut Sts. We believe our Lord desires to see a cafe in center city that is warm and welcoming, where Christians and all people who come into the store can relax, meet, read, study, access the Internet, while honoring and seeking Him.

We need either a structural engineer or an architect to volunteer some time and expertise to help us determine if the balcony space inside our store is structurally sound and useable for this purpose.

We also need carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, and anyone with willing hands and hearts to donate their time and energy for the following~

refurbishing, upgrading the balcony and maybe the store bathroom
painting
possible repair/refurbishing of indoor stairway to balcony
cleaning
a team of volunteers to staff the cafe during open hours

We also need advice and guidance from people who have experience and/or xpertise in opening and running a cafe in Philly. L & I and Health Services/Food Safety requirements appear a bit complicated!

If you, or anyone you know, would like to be a contributing partner in this exciting new mission adventure, please contact Mrs. Peter (Merle) Wolff at 610-291-9016 or e-mail, missywolff@hotmail.com.

Nursing Home Ministry Training

Fom Nick Batzig, Savannah, GA church planter: When I was an intern at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, I had the privilege of working with Dr. David Apple and the mercy ministry outreach. From a youth, my dad frequently took me to nursing homes where he would help lead worship services. (to continue, click here.

Seeking the Peace of the City

“To seek the peace of the city means that Christians are to be active participants—not spectators—working to bring alternative forms of urban life into being. Seeking the peace of the inner city therefore enjoins activity that enhances the social, physical, aesthetic, and economic world in which we dwell. It is transformational activity that responds to the context” (Mark Gornik, To Live in Peace, 120).

Urban Ministry Conference at Tenth Church

March 6–8, 2009

Register in Reception Hall this Sunday, following any of the worship services.

Email Anne with any questions or to volunteer (adavies@tenth.org).

And the grand prize goes to...

ME! This afternoon during our annual clean out day, I found an envelope of petty cash buried in a box of files from the early 90s! Before I turn it in to Jessie, I may take a picture of the old-fashioned $5s, $10s, and $20s, just so that I can explain to my children why people refer to cash as "greenbacks."

I also found plenty of food for blackmail--pictures of some of our workers from the 1980s! Perhaps I'll see if I can scan them and post them... :)

Volunteers Needed!

Want to attend the Urban Ministry Conference but don't want to spend $25? OR are you just so excited about the conference that you want to help however you can? Volunteers are needed to help put together registration folders the week of the conference, and with registration, snacks, and books during the conference. Email Anne (adavies@tenth.org) to volunteer.
