Marriage Seminar

Most of you know that Paul Tripp has his own ministry in which he travels around the country and the world giving seminars on various subjects. He has wanted and we have wanted to have a seminar here. After high-level negotiations (well, just the second floor of Delancey) we've settled on a date - September 25-26 (Friday evening-Saturday morning).

Paul will present a seminar on marriage entitled "What Did You Expect?' Hhmm...makes you wonder what to expect, doesn't it? You'll be hearing more about details, but save the dates now.

Pier 11 Event

Next Wednesday, June 17, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) will host a public presentation of four design teams that are finalists for the design of Pier 11 as a new waterfront public space. Mayor Nutter will provide an introduction, and each finalist will present examples of their work and how they would approach the project. This will be followed by a Q&A session. These nationally and internationally known finalists will help spur our imaginations about what is possible at Pier 11.

Citizens will be able to ask questions of the finalists and this public conversation will help inform DRWC’s selection process. In becoming a public park, Pier 11 will offer dramatic views of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the full sweep of the river, and the design will be the first step in the transformation of the riverfront as a 21st-century public amenity.

Event details:

Wednesday, June 17, 6pm – 8:30pm
Admission: Free
Festival Pier (Columbus Boulevard and Spring Garden Street)

Parking is free compliments of DRWC

Preaching Schedule

I am preaching Sunday morning (Lord willing). The text will be Ephesians 6:5-9. I am concluding a series of four sermons from section dealing with household relations. This one will deal more with the workplace and school.

Here is the rest of the schedule.

Angry with Tripp

Westminster Bookstore is featuring books and media material of Paul Tripp. Check it out here. I think I'll get the dvd "How to Be Good & Angry with Paul David Tripp."

Benefit Concert Saturday

Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 7:30 pm: Rachel Kuipers, viola, with Paul Jones, piano, will be giving a benefit concert at Tenth to support a trip by a Tenth team to Colombia in August. Music of Schumann, Schubert, Villa-Lobos, and Vieuxtemps will be featured.

Prayer Request Follow-Up

Wow! Everyone has been so encouraging and helpful. Here is a follow-up? My brother has an appt. with the Chair of the Neurosurgery Dept. at Mayo Clinic on Thursday morning. We believe things will move very quickly, and he will have "awake" brain surgery on Thursday or Friday.

Please pray for the team that will be operating on David, that they can remove the tumor without damage to the rest of his brain. Pray for God's healing. Thank you!
Angie Ferner

Computers Sought

If two Tenth members or regular attenders have recently upgraded your computer systems and do not know what to do with your old systems, Bruce Gunther would be very happy to receive the computers some Sunday after the first service and deliver them to two families in Camden with daughters in junior high school. He can be emailed.

Hosts for Irish Ministry Partners needed!

We still need to place 6-8 of the Irish students who will soon be arriving to work with our Maranatha teens in running a two week VBS program at Spruce Hill Christian School. This is a great opportunity for mutual encouragement, cultural exchange and practicing Tenth hospitality! The weekends they need a place to sleep, shower and receive some care are: June 19-21 and June 26-28. If you have some room for a few students—PLEASE consider helping in this very practical and necessary way. For more information, you can contact Jonny McGreevy.

Prayer Request

Angie Ferner requests prayer for her brother, David Wenzel, who has recently been found to have a brain tumor. He is trying to be seen at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. If you may know someone who can get be of help there, let Angie know. You can read more at David's blog.

Sparrows Saturday

The Sparrows ministry invites all women and girls ages 5 and up to join us this Saturday, June 13. We will be meeting from 1-3 pm in Fellowship Hall. Sylvia Duggan will give a devotional on "Joy in the Journey," and Amy Voorhis will lead us in a paper airplane craft. And then we will get to go fly them in the sanctuary! Hope to see you there!

Sparrows Scrapbook

(Dori, don't read this!)

On Sunday we presented Mrs. Baggs with a scrapbook on behalf of the Sparrows Ministry. Unfortunately, because we were trying to do it without Mrs. Baggs finding out we know that some of the girls and women who have participated in Sparrows over the years may not have been contacted in advance. So, if you were not contacted or just didn't have time to complete a page yet, don't despair. You can still make and include a page! Complete a page on your own (8.5 x 11 in size please) and give it to Mrs. Duggan at church or put it in the Library Mail Box in the Delancey Lobby for her to pick up. or Come to the Sparrows event on Sat. June 13 where we will have materials available for you to make one when you are done folding your paper airplane. We will make sure it gets to Mrs. Baggs.

Odunde Festival

Sylvia Duggan sent this notice in:

The Odunde Festival is scheduled to take place June 12 to 14th (though the news Monday night is saying it may be canceled for lack of funds). It is held every year the second Sunday in June and takes place on South Street between 21st and 23rd Streets extending to Grays Ferry Avenue and Christian Streets.

I am not sure what route others are taking to church from West Philadelphia, but with the South St. Bridge closed we now come across Grays Ferry and up to Pine via these streets. We will be taking another route to church this week and thought others might want to be prepared to avoid that area also.
