Steven and Anita Han are happy to announce the birth of their son Kevin Singhee Han born on 2/28/12.

Wheelchairs? Walkers? Vitamins?

Lori Greenawalt is volunteering short-term in a remote region in Peru with Medical Ministry International and wants to take with her items to donate to the in-country team. Items most needed by the in-country team members include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes (straight and footed), braces (arm/foot, etc.), non-prescription medications, pregnancy tests (necessary prior to treating for parasites), anti-inflammatory medications, vitamins (particularly prenatal, children’s and older adult with minerals), anti-bacterial creams, saline for eyes. Says Lori, "Often people have these items from prior injuries or loved ones and have no use for them. I assure you, I’ve seen them put to great use in Peru. From the woman who came to the clinic in a wheel barrow as that was the only way her family had to transport her who left in an appropriate wheel chair to the people that are near immobile who are fitted with a walker and gain back a freedom they never dreamed possible to the child who was properly fitted with a leg brace that will keep him from irreparable harm as his leg recovers from injury. The stories are countless and I’ve witnessed many."

Please deliver items to the Delancey lobby on April 1 or April 8.

TenthPress: Spotlight on a Tenth member during the Civil War

When you see the TenthPress article this week, you may wonder how it came to be. Here’s the story behind what I am seeing as our commemoration of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.

So often when I give the Preservation Alliance tour, Rittenhouse Square Sacred Sites, and tell of an episode in the life of Holy Trinity Church related to the Civil War, I have wondered how Tenth responded or was touched by the events of that war. I had been unable to find anything much in our records. So I was thrilled to receive an email some months ago from Al and Jane Conner, asking if Tenth was aware of the story of Ellen Matilda Orbison Harris (1816–1902).

I was also intrigued by their statements:

An Early Season...

Already this year, kingdom-minded volunteers have been packing their bags and traveling to areas impacted by tornados, floods, and other disasters. Others have prayed, offered donations, and helped their churches and congregations prepare for disaster. Christians in disaster ministry serve God by serving those suffering from loss. There are many ways we at Tenth can help! The best model for our disaster ministry is to support the PCA’s Mission to North America. To learn more please go to http://www.pcamna.org/disaster and check out the message of “Pray – Go – Give.” There you can learn how you can serve. And be on the look-out for ministry opportunities in disaster here at Tenth as Clark McCutcheon and Anthony Buller lead a renewed Tenth disaster ministry.
