                Carroll Wynne – Canada
                Liam Goligher – Scotland
                Jonny McGreevy – N. Ireland
                Mei-Lin Walter – Taiwan
                Bruce McDowell – Paraguay

Urban Ministry Conference Registration

Only two weeks until the Urban Ministry Conference. Get in on the early bird registration rate by registering before this Wednesday. Or you can stop by the registration table in the Reception Hall this Sunday.
Hope to see you there.

Wash'Em

Tenth member Loren Chen is a doctor at Jefferson and heads the committee assigned to promote the washing of hands. Here is the sophisticated video they produced. Between you and me, I think they have a Lady Macbeth obsession. Anyhow, that's Loren in the white coat. He doesn't make his appearance until halfway through. You will spot him as the one a little out of step with everyone else.

Planned Giving Seminar March 8

Tenth Church is hosting an Estate Planning Seminar on Tuesday, March 8, at the Union League, Philadelphia. In addition to the basics of estate planning, wills, trusts, guardianship, and powers of attorney, the seminar will also cover the biblical and spiritual aspects of estate planning. Part of the seminar will cover tax strategies for avoiding income taxes on retirement assets, capital gains taxes and estate taxes, while leveraging those taxes into gifts for ministry. This section will include discussion on the most efficient way for members of Tenth Presbyterian to designate gifts to the church and other ministries. In addition to the educational and information content, a personalized, confidential estate design service will also be offered at no cost to those attending. The evening will begin at 6:30 with dinner and end at 9:30.

There is no cost for the seminar, but registration is required by March 1. You can register online or by contacting Janice Rankins at scordat@hotmail.com.

Burnt Ground

I read this in Liam Goligher's book, The Jesus Gospel, this morning:

Quite a few years ago our younger son Andrew and I went to investigate a fire that someone had started in a park near where we live. We were feeling very responsible and decided that we should try and put the fire out, but it kept on moving towards us and the smoke was getting into our eyes.

Women's winter clothing needed

New Hope Liberia (NHL) Committee's liaison to the three orphanages we work with in Liberia, Victoria Marse, has arrived in the U.S. to visit with her family in Philadelphia and Delaware.  NHL is blessed by her visit and we hope to show her hospitality such as she shows to the short term missions teams each year.  Coming from a tropical climate, Victoria is in need of winter clothing, particularly a winter jacket.

If anyone has gently worn women's winter clothing that they would be willing to give to Victoria to borrow or keep, it would be greatly appreciated.  Victoria likely wears L or XL women's shirts and pants and would likely fit a L or XL winter coat or jacket.  Any donations can be brought to Tenth this Sunday, February 20th, to the Liberia Short Term Mission table in Reception Hall.  Thank you from New Hope Liberia!

Short-term teacher needed

One of our global partners has a need for a short-term teacher for their family this spring.  They are attending a 2-week language conference in Malaysia in April and are looking for someone to help with the homeschooling of their four children (under 12) who will be with them.

High Chair Wanted

I'm looking for a high chair. No, we don't have "news." It's not for us. One of Tenth's partners is helping settle a family of immigrants and has requested our help finding one. So if you have a high chair sitting in your basement, this is its call to service! Send it on a mission by contacting me at ttaylor(at)tenth.org

Housing Needed

Greetings! My husband Marc and I are members at Faith Christian Fellowship in Baltimore, MD. We will be relocating to Philadelphia for about 6 weeks beginning July 1, 2011. Marc will be taking classes at UPenn in preparation for an overseas medical fellowship. We are looking for furnished, short-term, kid-friendly housing for our family of 3 during that time period. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated! We can be reached by email or 410-929-6008.
Thank you,

Greer Callender

Thank You from Jennifer Beauford

I am incredibly gracious to all of you for the many gifts and kindness bestowed upon my family and me.

Letter to Duke Street

Our Session wrote to the Session of Duke Street Church a letter which was read to the congregation two Sundays ago and is now posted at their site. Here is the link to it. Please continue to keep our sister church in prayer.

Walking in Love

The manuscript for Sunday's sermon, "Walking in Love," from Ephesians 5:1-2, is now available at my website. Next Sunday, by the way, will be "Deceptive Living," from 5:3-7. The title comes from the phrase in verse 6, "Let no one deceive you with empty words."

Jim Murphy...a man with smile, a joke and lots of love.

Jim was a deacon at Tenth and always sported a smile, a warm welcome…and a joke. I have no doubt Jim entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday the same way. (Would love to know which joke he told!) Those of us who remain here are invited by Virginia and the family to come to Disston Memorial Presbyterian Church (4500 Tyson Ave., Philadelphia 19135) at 10 am on Saturday, Feb 19…the church where he and Virginia were married!
