Slow Down

It's September! Where did the summer go?

International Ministry Training

Do you want to get more actively involved in ministry? Here is a great opportunity for you. Tenth International Fellowship is organizing an International Ministry Training on Saturday, Sept.9! The training will be held on the third floor of 315 South 17th Street (across the street from Tenth Presbyterian Church), from 9 am to 1 pm.

The training will cover four subjects: English tutoring, hospitality, leading Bible Study, and understanding different worldviews. Our speakers include Kathy Bell, Nicholas Lamelza, Dr. & Mrs. Robert Hormann, Dr. Nasrat Ghattas, Deborah Langford, and Dr. John Leonard.

There is no cost to participating in this training. However, a free will offering will be collected, as well as token contribution for optional luncheon. Please do not let this golden opportunity go. Please register with Eunice Wong at tif@tenth.org.

Baptism Sermons Available

Copies of my last two sermons on baptism will be placed in the two lobbies this Sunday. Should they run out before you get one, then expect more to be put out each Sunday until they stop running out. Remember that you can access them online at the DMC Messages link on the right column, as well as listen to the webcasts through the church website.

In and Out

Phil will be back beginning next Tuesday. But Carroll has already walked out the door for his sabbatical. Next week will be a tight one as Phil has much to catch up on. Carroll is now unavailable and I will be out for that week. Most likely Dot will be away as well. And then most of the ministries are gearing back up. Pray for the staff to carry out their duties well.

Absent in Body

A reminder that I will be away next week through the 11th. If you want something posted on the blog, email it to Nancy Hala at nhala@tenth.org. Pastoral matters can be referred to anyone on the pastoral staff. If you don't know your parish elder, here they are: P-1 Michael Kennedy; P-2 Gordon Palmer and Tim Peterman; P-3 Brian Esterly; P-4 Paul Grant; P-5 Dave Collins; P-6 Carlos Perkins. If you don't know your parish, call in to the church and Nancy can tell you.

Happy Anniversary

Vic and Mildred Ellison and family on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.

With the Lord

Paul Reimold sent this notice in:

We learned today that Peter Schaul, long-time elder at Springton Lake PCA, died of cancer on Monday. He was in his mid to late fifties and leaves behind 2 teen sons and wife Kay. Services are at 7:00 PM this Thursday at Springton Lake (please confirm with the church.) I believe Peter attended Tenth while in college at Drexel.

Congratulations to the grand prize winners of the 2006 Tenth Library Summer Reading Contest: Youth division, Rebecca Hormann, first and Victoria Duggan, second; Teen division, Eleanor Linton, first and Noah Cohen, second. Prizes will be distributed on Sept.10.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Ginger and I are visiting our daughter Jean and son-in-law Lucas next week in Houston. We will return on the 11th. Yes, the fifth anniversary of 9/11. So what do you think; will we have plenty of room on the plane?

Day of Prayer

The Day of Prayer is this Sunday. Please attend one of the sessions. The 9:00 prayer time will be in Fellowship Hall and the 11:00 in the 315 Building, first floor. The focus will be on the church's strategic planning initiative. You will be provided with the vision and mission statement. In October we will have opportunity for congregational wide discussion. Here is the opportunity for congregational wide prayer.

We will also lift up the victims of Hurricane Katrina and remember the tragedy of 9/11. Much to pray about. All the more then we need God's people gathered for prayer.

Free Furniture

Have you been praying for new furniture? I hope you have!
Parish 1 member is moving to New York and needs to get rid of some furniture THIS WEEKEND!

Free: very nice Asian teak wood living room set (large futon sofa, futon chair, coffee table, and end table). 4 years old (purchased at Pearl of the East in Center City).
Free: Ikea loft bed. Great for students and small apartments.
Free: 10 foot folding table and 10 or so folding chairs.
Free: bread maker
Free: tons of theology and technology books
Free: 2 bookshelves.
Free: small kitchen table

Everything is free, but the deal is: you must come THIS WEEKEND and you must CARRY IT OUT OF THE APARTMENT. I can help, but I’m not strong enough to get this stuff out front (I live in a high-rise, but not on a high floor).
I am also contacting the Salvation Army and I plan to give them whatever’s here when they arrive, so first come, first serve. J

NM Knows Soccer

Did anyone see Nancy Messner on the soccer field at the picnic? She knows how to handle that ball, even if Phil Ryken thinks she should have gotten a yellow card.

One More Sunday

One more Sunday to go and our morning and evening preachers will be back in their preaching saddles. I will be preaching again in the morning on prayer. Chris Seah will preach on Jeremiah's prayer of Jeremiah 32:16-35.

Then Phil picks back up in Luke and Aaron begins a series on Titus.

Sermon Posted

Sunday's message on Infant Baptism has been posted at the DMC Messages site. See link on the righthand column.
