Communicants Class

Each year we have a "communicants class" in the fall. It is a class for young people (typically the sixth grade) who want to join the church as "communicant" members. (Actually they are already members of the church, if their parents are. They are "noncommunicant" members, meaning that they do not yet partake of Communion, the Lord's Supper.) Anyhow, the communicants class is basically a new members' class, in which they learn about the church in preparation to join. We have 22 students this year. Below is their class schedule.

Phillie Gold

So, I'm riding along the streets of Philadelphia, when at the corner I spot a pretty, young Phillies fan in her Phillies jersey and cap. But standing next to her is a Jason Werth look-a-like holding a World Series trophy replica painted in gold. But that's not the odd part. He is painted all in gold - his Phillies outfit, his hair, his face!

Well, you get all kinds in Philadelphia, I think, but...wait a minute. That girl looks like Ava Berzinsky. If that's Ava...no, it can't be! That's her dad, Greg! What is he doing? I found out what they both were doing, as I watched the news in the evening, and there they are again at the stadium! This picture is taken while they are being viewed by CNN.

Just Do Something

So, I'm sitting with Paul Tripp and Robert Polen before the evening service, and they begin discussing a book by Kevin DeYoung on the will of God that Paul thinks is insightful and that Robert refers everyone to who is having to make decisions about their future. It is Just Do Something, published by Moody Publishers.

Going to VA soon?

If anyone is driving to or through Virginia soon and would be willing to drop off a box of supplies, please contact Bruce McDowell. He would like to get supplies to a short-term team that is visiting our partners in Colombia.

Need a new perspective?

Consider attending Perspectives on the World Christian Movement, offered at Church of the Savior in Wayne, PA. The course begins on October 17, and runs from 3-5:00 pm on Sunday afternoons until early March (with several weeks off around Christmas and New Years).

This is a fantastic opportunity to consider God's work in his world throughout history, practical ways to minister to people in other cultures, and God's calling on your own life. Knowledgeable, gifted speakers will lead the sessions each week, and there are many opportunities for discussion and self-directed research.

This is a great course for any believer, so don't miss it! To find out more information, click here.
