Philadelphia's own Chief

There is our own Carl Staico hanging out in Kansas City during the Chief's practices this week. Carl not only keeps Tenth (and CCA) looking clean and orderly, but also has supported the Kansas City Chiefs...since 1972. In fact, his brother (on the left) has a room set aside in the family's South Philly business for KC fans to come and watch games.

Oh, and perhaps you recognize the guy in the center -- Andy Studebaker no. 96 for the Kansas City Chief -- who attended Tenth while practicing with the Eagles. A good brother now soaring with the Chiefs.

Getting lost in a Raspberry Patch

Eleanor (Skippy) Linton knows her way around a Raspberry Patch -- which is the name of her new cake creation which won first prize in the Hershey's Cocoa Cake baking contest at the Goshen Country Fair! Here is the description of her Raspberry Patch cake:

Raspberry Patch (there were two round layers, split in half - one layer had raspberries and cream filling, the others were a ganache frosting)....but the top was covered with fresh raspberries, with fresh mint leaves from out front around the edge of the top.

After judging, the cakes were auctioned off...for $18, $35 and for Skippy's cake...$127!

In January, she will represent Goshen at the State Fair in Harrisburg! Congratulations Skippy!

Changing Hearts, Changing Lives

The Philadelphia Access Center, one of Tenth's partners in ministry, will be offering a "Changing Hearts, Changing Lives" course this fall. This course focuses on how Christ changes us and uses us as instruments of redemptive change, working through a study guide developed by the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation. This is a fantastic course for anyone seeking to grow in Christ and to love others.

Last spring, I participated in the "Helping Others Change" course at the Philadelphia Access Center, and I would give the facilitators and group participants an enthusiastic two-thumbs up! :)

The 13-week course meets on Saturday mornings from 9:30-11:30 am, beginning September 11. The cost is $35/person, which includes the workbook for the course.

To preregister, call the Philadelphia Access Center at 215-389-1985 by September 3.
