Ruth Floyd at White Stone Gallery

Exhibit Invitation from White Stone Gallery

Save the date for:
RUTH NAOMI FLOYD
Veil Series
(An Exhibit of Black & White Photographs by Accomplished Photographer, Ruth Naomi Floyd)

September 11 - October 31, 2009
Cocktail Reception (Please see Note below about reception.): September 18, 7 - 9 PM

The Veil Series is a body of fine art black and white photographic images that express the different "veils" that we experience while traveling on the path of life.

Throughout life's journey we encounter themes that may reveal our struggle to stand, fall or kneel. It is in these seasons that we choose to embrace, reject, shield, conceal, shroud and grasp the realities of our veiled experience. For the One who created us, is the only One who fully sees through our veils. This series was inspired by Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and Philippians 1:6.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please Note: Ruth Naomi Floyd is also a renowned vocalist and composer who has released several recordings that have received high acclaim both nationally and internationally. Ruth will sing a few selections from her new body of musical works at the opening reception.

Also Note: The cocktail reception is an adult affair. Children under the age of 18 may visit the exhibit during the gallery's normal business hours.

House for the Tauriellos

Vinny Tauriello has been called by the Philadelphia Presbytery to do church planting work in the Northeast. Below is a message about the Tauriellos housing situation.

"As you know we have been working on securing a home to move to Northeast Philadelphia and begin our church planting work. Our home in Maryland has sold and we will close Aug 12th and rent back until Aug 21. We had put a contract on a house in Philadelphia and were set to close on Aug 19th and move on Aug 20th but the seller’s pulled out of the contract at the last minute. So we are looking for temporary housing to hold us over until we secure a new home."

If you are able to help, please contact Vinny at vtauriello@newhopeopc.org.

Glory Road

Check out a new book, Glory Road: The Journeys of 10 African-Americans into Reformed Christianity, edited by Anthony Carter. Two of the stories are by former Tenth interns: Lance Lewis and Anthony Bradley. Click here for a review of the book by Doug Logan, who preached here last Sunday night and is serving a joint internship with us for church planting.

(Disclaimer: This does not mean I endorse everything said in the book, especially the chapter by Anthony Bradley, "Clemson University Saved My Life." Clemson? CLEMSON?)

Tenth members/regular attenders interested in special needs ministry are invited to a meeting this Saturday morning, August 8 in Lansdowne, PA. The meeting will consider the following questions: 1) What special challenges are you currently facing (or do you see others affected by disability facing) and how do you think Tenth Church could come alongside? 2) From your personal experiences with disability, what do you see as starting points for a growing disability ministry at Tenth? For information, contact Kristen Harnly at tenthcsn@msn.com.

Kempens welcome Peter Joseph

Dear Tenth,

Lori and I, Christopher and Natalie, are very pleased to welcome Peter Joseph Kempen to our family. He was born Friday night, July 31, 2009, at 8 lb 0.6 oz, and 21.5". He and Lori are both doing very well.

Peter was the one to whom Jesus said, "on this rock I will build my church" and Joseph means "YHWH adds." We pray that God will use Peter to add to his church.

In Jesus,
John and Lori Kempen
