ESL Teachers Sought

The Northeast Church Plant is looking for volunteers to teach ESL (on Monday and Wednesday evenings) to immigrants with the Northeast Church Plant (a PCA mission church). If you are interested please contact Jen Taylor - jenalbania@yahoo.com or Jason Stryd - jasonstryd@gmail.com or call 215-280-0176.

The Next Mere Christianity

According to Tenth Elder David Skeel in The Wall Street Journal, evangelicals are still looking for the next great Mere Christianity. Tim Keller's The Reason for God is close, but to succeed a writer needs two things...more

By the way, the Wall Street Journal is merely printing material from David's blogsite, Less Than the Least. It's not DMC News, but such a blogger needs...

Sunday Coming

Sunday morning hymns are:
198 - Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates! (very appropriate as the Psalm reading is Psalm 24)
565 - All for Jesus!
509 - All is Vanity! (Just kidding. It is Jesus, Lover of My Soul)

Evening hymns are:
1 - All People That on Earth Do Dwell (also appropriate for the sermon on Psalm 100)
248 - Ah, Holy Jesus, How Hast Thou Offended
65 - Before Jehovah's Awesome Throne
78 - O Bless the Lord, My Soul

Communion will be served in the evening service. This is also the service in which we have the monthly coffeehouse on the steps of the church. The Randy Pendleton Trio will be featured.

Conshohocken Fire

Someone asked if we had any church members in Conshohocken affected by last night's fire. We do not. I also checked on the Christ the King congregation. They also did not have members in that apartment building. By the way, pray for them this week as they conduct Vacation Bible School.

Hhmmm...our sermon signboard reads:

Dr. Philip G. Ryken
Vanity of Vanities

Rev. Jonathan Olsen

Vanity...

Phil is starting his Ecclesiastes series Sunday. I'm just going to have to lay low for the next few months. Make one wrong comment or mistake and I get, "Vanity of vanities! All is vanity!"

Pastor Phil's Perspective

What does Phil think is the most important thing to do in witnessing to others? Find out in his Pastor's Perspective comments at the Ligonier blogsite. You may have to scroll down a bit to find the heading "Pastor's Perspective" posted August 11.

Herches Moving

Luke and Debra Herche, and sons Thomas and Nathaniel, move this weekend. Luke is still waiting on a call to a church, so be in prayer for them as they move to New Jersey near family. Both Luke and Debra have a fairly long history with Tenth. Luke became a Christian here, and they met here. Luke taught for a number of years at CCA, as well as served as a Tenth intern.

Back to Kansas

I just finished helping load up the moving van for Ian and Anna Scherling, a young couple who spent the last eight months here, while Ian served an internship for landscaping design. They are from Manhattan, better known as the "Little Apple," home of Kansas State University. Ginger and Richard Homer also helped. (And I know NOTHING, if they should find their Wii missing.)

Teacher needed at Philadelphia Mennonite HS

PMHS is seeking a Chemistry/Physics Teacher for this school year. Please contact Dr. Barbara G. Moses at 215.769.5363 for information about the position.

Elder Training

Sunday worship services are not the only activities that we webcast live. On most Thursday evenings, from 8-8:30, I am webcasting training lessons to our elders. You are welcome to listen in, as well as access the previous sessions. This Thursday night, I will present the topic, "Prayer and the Word: How to Use the Two Primary Tools Given to Elders for Ministering to Their People." You can access the webcast and posting page here.

At the OK Corral

The citizens of Pyfer City grew anxious when the Clark Gang rode into town.

But their worries disappeared at the arrival of Marshall Beauford.
