The New Theist

Here is an interesting article on Christian philosopher and apologist William Lane Craig in The Chronicle of Higher Eduction.

My Way

Proverbs 16:25

There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death.

With apologies to Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, let me read a famous song that this proverb addresses so well.

“My Way”

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.

Liam on the Fourth

The following post from Liam appeared today on the Reformation 21 blog. He may be in the UK, but that's our flag he's waving:

"It's the Fourth of July and I applaud the greatest country on earth; I honor my Scots-Irish forebears that under waves of persecution in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries went in waves over the ocean to plant Presbyterian churches in the Carolina's, in Pennsylvania and further west; I am grateful to God that Huguenots from France and the Reformed from Continental Europe found a peaceful place to settle and pursue their Reformed religion; and that these United States became the power house of missionary endeavor in the 19th and 20th centuries.

A Crowded Commissioning

Here is the commissioning service for Maranatha and Northern Ireland volunteers who are serving in various mission projects this summer, and for SMI volunteers. It's a little crowded on the platform.

The Wise Heart

Proverbs 16:23

The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious
and adds persuasiveness to his lips.

After the wise person speaks, his hearers believe they have heard someone who is fair and insightful. They benefit from his words; they admit where they have been wrong. Perhaps they were upset, and they walk away peaceful.

Good Sense

Proverbs 16:22

Good sense is a fountain of life to him who has it,
but the instruction of fools is folly.

The “good sense” spoken of is good common sense, and certainly it is a fountain of life to the one who possesses it. Good sense is what makes one take heed to instruction and be able to detect the wise from the foolish. It puts knowledge to practical use and makes sense out of information.
