Back in the Saddle

If you don't know the tune, click here.

I'm back in the saddle again
Rid’n my folding bike again
Where the joggers run along
Listening to their iPod songs
Back in the saddle again

Ridin' the streets once more
Totin' my lunch bag and more
Where you keep out of the way
Speeding cars in bike lanes stray
Back in the saddle again

Whoopi-ty-aye-oh
Rockin' to and fro
Back in the saddle again
Whoopi-ty-aye-yay
I go my way
Back in the saddle again

Fellowship of the King

From Liam Goligher's Fellowship of the King:

To have fellowship with God means Christians are partners with him. The word "partner" is another root meaning of koinonia. What does it mean to be a partner with God? Christians are caught up into God's great purposes and plans for this world and, to the Christian's great delight and surprise, God's interests have become the Christian's interests. God the Father's great enterprise is to send his Son into the world to bring men and women into a personal relationship with himself and to glorify his Son with the glory he had before the world began. But Christians are more than a part of the plan of God the Father, in the sense of a pawn being moved around a checker board.

Philip Kirkland's Conclusion

Paul Tripp is not the only minister stepping down this month. At the end of March, Philip Kirkland will conclude his ministry as TIF's (Tenth International Fellowship) director. Philip has been preparing for service overseas and hopes to make that move in the fall. He will be stepping down so as to devote full-time to raising support. If you would like to hear more about his ministry and consider giving support, you can email him. By the way, he has a house to sell in Pottstown, if you know of anyone interested.

Paul Tripp on Sunday

This Sunday, May 20, will be the last day that Paul Tripp will be serving on staff. With the growth of Paul Tripp Ministries, it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to give the needed attention to ministry at the church. (Well, there was also the increasing problem of confusing him and Bruce McDowell, and neither one was willing to shave his mustache.) Paul will be preaching the morning services this Sunday. We will have opportunity to thank him for his service, but there will be no farewell, as he is not going anywhere. You will still see him sitting in his usual spot in the balcony, and he will continue as an active member in the church.

Examined in Stryd

Jason Stryd was examined and approved for ordination by the presbytery. Jason is part of the trio of pastors at the Northeast Community Church plant, which our church gave support to through our capital campaign. It is a unique church reaching out to three different language groups. Vinny Tauriello ministers to the English speaking attenders; Maranatha Chung (who use to be a Tenth member) ministers to the Chinese population; and Jason ministers to the Albanian community. Jason's ordination and installation service will be held May 15. I don't know the time for it.

Moses Licensed

Liam Goligher was not the only Tenth-related person to be examined on Saturday. Moses Wong was examined for licensure and was also approved. What is licensure? The Book of Church Order explains: "To preserve the purity of the preaching of the Gospel, no man is permitted to preach in the pulpits of the Presbyterian Church in America on a regular basis without proper licensure from the Presbytery having jurisdiction where he will preach."

Examined and Found...

Well, he passed. I'm not sure how, but Liam Goligher slipped through all the examinations of presbytery, and on Saturday was extended the call to be our Senior Minister.

Here is how the system works. Though we voted as a congregation to call Dr. Goligher to be our Senior Minister, it is the responsibility of presbytery (Philadelphia Presbytery) to approve him. The wording is as follows:
