Room and/or Roommate Wanted

Greetings

I am moving to Philly in 1 month for residency training. I am asking if you could ask around for me if anyone is looking to rent out a room or share a place with me. I know this is last minute as I had thought I found a place but the last tenant told me there were RATS there and so I am now scrambling to find a place. I am 7 hours away so I won't be able to come there to see the places. However, I do prefer a christian roommate but it is not a necessity. If any of you could ask the congregation or post a email to the church members I would appreciate it. Please let me know either way.

thank you,

John

Retreating

Paul Jones and I have just returned from the pastoral staff retreat. The fire in New Jersey forced us to take the Garden State Parkway up to Trenton and come down 95. The others were not as fortunate as we and are another 30-45 minutes behind us. One care is still at the beach waiting for routes to open up.

Studio Apartment Available in University City

Housemate Seeking

Looking for a housemate to share my 2-story row house, located a few blocks away from the Art Museum in Philadelphia. I'm asking for a Christian female, preferably 25-years or older who would be able to move in around July, or August at the latest. The house is near several SEPTA bus routes and nearby churches. The rent (+ utilities) is a great deal for this beautiful neighborhood. First & last month's rent + $400 security deposit are required. If you're interested, please call me, Julie Reimer, at 215.520.6246 or email me at reimer.julie@gmail.com <mailto:reimer.julie@gmail.com> . Thanks!

Of Candidates, Interns, and Licentiates

Besides Jonathan passing his ordination exam, three other Tenth members came before presbytery. Andrew Duncan was received as a Candidate for the Gospel Ministry. Chris Seah's previous internship work at Tenth was accepted. And Maranatha Chung passed examination for licensure.

Here are relevant definitions and explanations of these terms from the Book of Church Order:

18-1. A candidate for the ministry is a member of the Church in full communion who, believing himself to be called to preach the Gospel, submits himself to the care and guidance of the Presbytery in his course of study and of practical training to prepare himself for this office.

19-1. To preserve the purity of the preaching of the Gospel, no man is permitted to preach in the pulpits of the Presbyterian Church in America on a regular basis without proper licensure from the Presbytery having jurisdiction where he will preach.... A ruling elder, a candidate for the ministry, a minister from some other denomination, or some other man may be licensed
for the purpose of regularly providing the preaching of the Word upon his giving satisfaction to the Presbytery of his gifts and passing the licensure examination.

19-7. The Holy Scriptures require that some trial be previously made of those who are to be ordained to the ministry of the Word, both concerning their gifts and concerning their ability to rule as teaching elders, in order that this sacred office may not be degraded by being committed to weak or unworthy men, and that the Church may have an opportunity to form a better judgment respecting the gifts of those to whom this sacred office is to be committed.

To provide for such a period of trial, a candidate for ordination must serve an internship. This period of internship shall be at least one year in length, and may be longer at the discretion of the Presbytery so as to give sufficient time for the Presbytery to judge the candidate’s qualifications and service.

Passing the Grade

No more tests,
no more exams,
no more papers
now he can rest!

As of last Saturday at presbytery, Jonathan Olsen has passed examination on: acquaintance with experiential religion, especially his personal character and family management, knowledge of the Greek and Hebrew languages, Bible content, theology, the Sacraments, Church history, the history of the PCA, and the principles and rules of the government and discipline of the church. He has written papers on theology and biblical exegesis, and has preached a sermon before presbytery. He has fulfilled his internship.

Now, just seven more questions to answer, and he will be ordained as a Minister of the Gospel. Those questions will be asked next Sunday morning during worship as part of his ordination service.

Congratulations, Jonathan!
