Marinus Ensemble
"Ancient art has a specific inner content. Art one time possessed the same purpose that books do in our day, namely to preserve and transmit knowledge. In older days, people did not write books, they incorporated their knowledge into works of art. We would find a great many ideas in the works of ancient art passed down to us, if only we knew how to read them."-G. Gurdjieff

Founded and built around this idea, the Marinus Ensemble is a flexible group of young international soloists, whose goal it is to bring this knowledge (not only knowledge of art, but knowledge through art) to light, and to share it in our modern times.

In line with this thought, they attempt to showcase programs that open the ears of listeners, and through juxtaposition of styles, composers, and instruments awaken and reinforce the idea that all great music, be it Renaissance music of the 1500's, the classics of Beethoven, or the contemporary music of our own time, has the power to challenge, inform and change us.

Marinus Ensemble was founded by siblings Rachel and Joseph Kuipers, and draws musicians of international renown across cultural barriers to explore sonic worlds that enlighten our nature.
