The Call

Now that I know April is poetry month, I'd like to post poems daily. Do you have a poem I could post? It may be religious or non-religious, serious or funny, of any style. This coming Sunday, Branch Fields will be singing a poem written by George Herbert (1593-1633). This is one of the "Five Mystical Songs," a musical composition by Ralph Vaughan Williams using Herbert's poems.

Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life:
Such a Way, as gives us breath:
Such a Truth, as ends all strife:
Such a Life, as killeth death.

Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength:
Such a Light, as shows a feast:
Such a Feast, as mends in length:
Such a Strength, as makes his guest.

Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart:
Such a Joy, as none can move:
Such a Love, as none can part:
Such a Heart, as joyes in love.

I love this poem so much! Thank you for posting. The Vaughan Williams setting is absolutely beautiful, too.
