The Tempest

Proverb 10:25

When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more,
but the righteous is established forever.

The foundation upon which the wicked builds is nothing but sand. However deep he may dig and high he may build, the tempest will wash it away.
The tempest may come in his lifetime. More often than not, the wicked is continually having to rebuild what justice or other wickedness tear down.

The righteous weathers the tempest because God who controls the very tempest is his Refuge, his Rock, his Tower, his Stronghold. He learns to regard the tempest as God’s very means of making him more dependent upon his Lord.

But the tempest is that which we must all pass in death. As we enter into the presence of God, what will remain after that tempest? What will remain of our works? What will be our condition after the tempest has stripped bare our foundation? What will the foundation prove to have been?

What it needs to be is the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Our works, our own efforts at morality will wash away. Christ’s righteousness is established forever. Upon that foundation we are to live and to place our security. Remember this during whatever tempest comes your way. Christ and those who place their security on him are established forever.
