Violence in Jos

We have received word that Muslim youth attacked Christian worshippers Sunday in the city of Jos, Nigeria. The violence has escalated and reports are that houses and churches have been burned and over a thousand people displaced. Secular news agencies report that between 150 to 200 have been killed.

A Nigerian member of Tenth reports on a call to a colleague at a seminary in Jos, "I was talking with him this morning I heard the sound of the guns at the background, and he told me that bullets are flying into the seminary and another call came from Bukuru Jos that the militants have taken over that area. It is just last week that all schools were opened; and most Christian High Schools are situated in those areas. The attack of of Christians has spread to every part of Jos city this morning. This is a live news from Nigeria. Pray for God's intervention and protection of his Church."

He continues, "But I find consolation in John Calvin's words, 'For all whom the Lord has chosen and received into the society of his saints ought to prepare themselves for a life that is hard, difficult, laborious, and full of countless griefs.' I encourage us to pray for the salvation of the Islamic militants, because if they truly know God in Christ this would not have happened. Pray also for Christians in Jos city to emulate Jesus Christ and Stephen in Acts 7 by praying for their persecutors, forgiving them and still extending the love of Christ to the Muslims. Pray for the Nigerian government for righteousness and justice to be done this time around. For we know that in the history of humanity, outside Emperor Constantine, Christianity has never experience any favor from human government. But with your prayers there would be a great difference. For Christian love bears everything."
