Rainbow Circus
Tom Martin sent in this notice:
There will be public showings of the Rainbow Circus at First Baptist Church in Newtown Square (3722 West Chester Pike) on Thursday October 15 from 7-9 pm, Friday October 16 from 7-9 pm, and Saturday October 17 from 10 am - Noon.
The Rainbow Circus is the second of two miniature mechanized circuses hand crafted by Harry W. Springer of Camp Hill, PA, who was a Bell Telephone Pioneer. The Rainbow Circus portrays a circus of the early 20th century and includes more than 800 hand-carved figures, of which nearly 150 are mechanized in about 40 working acts. The circus extends over an area 21 feet long by 3 feet 9 inches deep. Power from a single motor is transmitted to the various transportable sections by a single steel shaft and then distributed by leather belts and wooden pulleys to the various custom-made mechanisms.

Thanks for publishing this, Marion. Let me add that the display is free of charge and is a marvelous thing for children. I have seen it in prior years and it is presented as a community outreach by a friend of mine.
