I am very saddened for Mr. Haggard and for his family. And I am concerned about how this reflects upon our witness for Christ in this world.

I think there is a pressing need in the church and in seminaries to frankly address the issues of temptation in the ministry. (I am certainly very thankful for the ministry of Harvest USA in this regard. We need to remember them in prayer often).

And there is a pressing need for all of us to really identify ourselves as "chief among sinners" Someone I know recently posed the question - if Jesus in all his holiness was on one end of the spectrum and Hitler was on the other - where would you be? Her answer was "in a bear hug with Hitler" It's a shocking way to say it - but it's true that we all are capable of monstrous sins.

We must not rely on our own strength and efforts - but rely wholly on Jesus and his work on our behalf.

I agree with Jessie, and would add that we also need to pray regularly for our own pastors and other church leaders in this regard.

Yes, your ministers definitely need prayer concerning the subject of same-sex attraction (more than you realize!!)

I was asked the question by more than one inquiring mind and I don't have the answer. Could you please comment. The question is what (if any) relationship is there between the New Life Churches and the PCA. Is New Life another denomination similar to the PCA? I know that there are several New Life churches in the Philadelphia area that are affiliated with the PCA such as New Life Glenside and Northeast. Thanks for the help.

I don't know what affiliation Rev. Haggard's New Life Church is, if any. "New Life" is simply a name like "Faith" or "New Covenant."

Check out Rick Phillips' comments "Just Like Ted Haggard?" at the reformation21 site. Balanced and comprehensive.

I concur with Marion on Rick's very balanced response. I think it is very helpful because it is much more nuanced than many responses.

I read his response after writing my comment (above) - and definitely agree with how he nuanced things (& expressed them better than I did).
