Getting Ready for Sunday

Phil gave good advice yesterday, encouraging us to read 1 John in preparation for next Sunday's sermon and spiritual health survey. The text I will preach is 5:1-5. The reason for choosing it is that it brings together all three of the "spiritual tests" in the letter: doctrine, holiness, and love. You will greatly benefit by reading the letter through at least once and focusing on that text.

For that matter, read the text for the evening service to prepare for that service. I'm trying to figure out what the DQ stands for in Aaron's sermon title: "No DQ for You."

Will children under the age of 10 or 12 be encouraged to take the survey (given, of course, that the decision will be up to the parents)? I'm asking with 2 things in mind:
1. children might need more than 20 minutes to complete the survey.
2. parents might need more time to explain the nature of some of the more "frank" survey items. If parents would like their children to take the survey, perhaps families should talk beforehand about the nature of these items.

I had previously answered not to take up extra time for the children. However, there may be others who also cannot complete the survey in the 20 minutes. Take whatever time is needed. We just don't want to be receiving the surveys back after Sunday. As for the "frank" items, feel free to skip them. No one must complete all the items.
