It's a real shame and a disappointment not to reach a quorum at Friday's congregational meeting.

I just wonder if a different time/day of the week would have mattered.

For me personally, Friday evenings are at the end of a long week. I've worked 9 - 10 hours, must drive 40 minutes from work to home and another 40 minutes from home into Tenth (Sunday mornings, the trip usually only takes only 25 - 30 minutes, but traffic on a Friday evening is a lot heavier.)

Maybe the mention of a 6PM start time scared people off. I realize that the actual meeting did not start until 7:30, but mentally, maybe people thought in terms of 6PM rather than 7:30.

The bottom line is that it can be difficult to make it into Tenth 6PM on Friday night, unless you work in town and are already there.

May I suggest that a light supper be served instead of desert? After working all day and maybe coming directly to Tenth from work, people should be fed something besides a sugary dessert. The emphasis on timing should be that a supper would be served from 6 - 7:15, so people can arrive an grab a bite to eat as they are able.

All this being said, I realize that there is never going to be a perfect time for these sort of things and that voting in a congregation meeting is a duty of every member. Also, the dessert social beforehand was a well done affair.
