Hurricane Sandy Relief with PCA Mission to North America

This is a follow-up to the announcement in the bulletin in how to help with Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts in the neighborhood.

On October 29, Hurricane Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore as well as other parts of the US. As a response, Tenth City Network organized a small team to work with the PCA’s Mission to North America (MNA) in Atlantic City. We were assigned to New City Fellowship of Atlantic City led by Pastor Santo Garofalo. On November 17, our team of 8 brothers and sisters partnered with Penn Graduate Christian Fellowship, and went down to Ventnor, NJ.

We found ourselves working with a church from South Carolina, who has been there since November 14. They came with a SUV pulling a rig containing supplies and tools needed for post-disaster repairs on homes. It was blessing to work with them as our group was divided up into two teams, one team setting up the gutter system for a home and the other team gutting out the entire first floor of a house that was flooded at least several feet into the first floor of the two-story home. We also met with the homeowner’s two grown children.

It was a lot of physical labor including demolition work and moving materials. Praise God we finished a lot that day after arriving at 9 am and leaving at 5pm and no one got hurt doing the work. We are grateful to have had a chance to assist and hope to do so more in the next few months.

Atlantic City needs more help and MNA is looking for more volunteers. They are rather flexible regarding the time commitment. For more information go to http://pcamna.org/disaster-response/storms/ to sign up on your own or to donate funds to support them.

If you want more a of personal perspective or are interested in volunteering, leading a group, or lending out tools to borrow for a next trip, then please contact me at Andrew_wang123@hotmail.com.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31
