Feeding
Proverb 10:21
The lips of the righteous feed many,
but fools die for lack of sense.
The lips of the righteous feed the souls of many. They feed truth to those hungry for righteousness and for wisdom. They feed life to those starving for words to nourish their spirits. They feed conviction to those straying off the path of life, and they feed comfort to those needing yet again to hear the grace of the gospel.
But fools neither feed others nor themselves. They have nothing of true nourishment to give. They are like the sham doctors and experts who hock worthless “nutritional” pills and foods, except that they actually believe their worthless products are valuable. That is why they are fools. They hear what the righteous have to say and dismiss such richly laden words as though worthless. That is why they die from spiritual malnutrition. It is not that they live where there is famine, but that they will not receive what is true nourishment.
Thus God will not excuse the many who dismiss the words of life that are easily available to them. He will not excuse their objections as to why they refused to listen to his Word because of their perceptions of Christians and churches. Those with ears to hear will feed upon the gospel. They will recognize what is truly nourishing, if they are not fools.
