The Source of Wisdom
Proverbs
2:5-8
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
8 guarding the paths of justice
and watching over the way of his saints.
If you truly seek wisdom, you will end up before the presence of God. That is where the path to wisdom leads you, for the Lord is the source of wisdom. If you are truly seeking wisdom, it is because God is leading you to do so and leading you along the path to himself. All the more then, pray to him for wisdom; pray to him to lead you along the path of wisdom.
Once you come to God, know that he will then give to you from his storehouse of wisdom. He will furthermore protect you and watch over you. For just as wisdom is connected to a desire to live rightly, so it is connected with a desire to glorify God. Wisdom is not reduced to a body of information to know nor even to principles to observe. Wisdom is about glorifying God. The desire to glorify God is the essence of wisdom; it is the magnet that draws forth more wisdom, because God gives wisdom to those who strive to glorify him. To "understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God" is to desire and know how to glorify God, who then "gives wisdom" and "knowledge and understanding."
But key to all of this is coming to God through Christ, who is the Truth, the Way, and the Life; who is the only door leading to God. There are many who appear to be wise; many who have much understanding and even appear to have wisdom about God. Nevertheless, they have not humbled themselves in Christ, recognizing their utter dependence upon the work of Christ. Until then, their "wisdom" only leads them astray from the Truth. In Christ alone will you find the knowledge of God and receive from the Lord true wisdom.
