The Westminster Brass
This past Saturday, the Westminster Brass celebrate 35 years of performance by giving a family concert in the church. It was a wonderful time of listening to music ranging from children's songs to old-time sing-a-longs to a commissioned piece for the brass. Tom Elliott gives a little history here of the group.
In 1975 I was asked by the late James Montgomery Boice to establish a musical group that would be an accompaniment to congregational singing and special music that would be solely for the praise and worship of God. The Westminster Brass is what is known as a traditional brass quintet. We have traveled throughout the USA and Canada, and we have been in Ukraine performing and teaching. In the 70s we were young and full of optimism toward our careers, not having any idea this group would be together for 36 years (and counting). In 1980 we had our first personnel change from John Moore to Kenneth Laudermilch. Not since then have there been changes in personnel. Sadly this year our French horn player, Dan McCartney moved to Dallas.
