Cohens New Calling

The year 2011 brings with it more transitions. Seth Cohen, Headmaster of Spruce Hill Christian School/City Center Academy, is taking a new position to become Director of Santiago Christian School in Santiago, Dominican Republic, effective July 1. Below is the letter sent to school parents this week.
Dear Parents,

Headmaster Seth Cohen has informed the Board of Trustees of Spruce Hill Christian School and City Center Academy that he has accepted the call to become Director of Santiago Christian School in Santiago, Dominican Republic, effective July 1. His service as Headmaster of our schools will end June 30.

As with you, we receive this news with sadness. Dr. Cohen has been used of God to bring growth and stability, first to Spruce Hill and then also CCA. His leadership has been invaluable. Our Board will be meeting this week to act on the resignation and to determine the next steps to take for finding a successor, as well as to assure the ongoing progress of the schools.

As difficult of a loss Dr. Cohen’s departure may be, he is leaving the schools in the strongest position they have ever been in. The academic program is strong. Student performance and behavior are at high levels. Enrollment is at peak levels, and our financial status is solid. Our administrative staff and faculty are skilled, committed, and united. And we can attest that the Board is strongly committed to building on this foundation.

Most importantly, we are as ever trusting in the sovereignty of our God. We trust that it is He who is sending Dr. Cohen to serve His kingdom in Santiago. We know that school will be richly blessed by Dr. Cohen’s skills and commitment to Christian education. We trust, as well, that He has prepared our schools for such a time as this, and that He will raise up the right successor to build upon Dr. Cohen’s foundation.

Pray for the Cohen family as they make their transition to another country. Pray for our Board as we act on behalf of the schools. Pray for the staff and faculty as they carry on their work. By God’s will, Spruce Hill and CCA will continue to be “a light to the city” through the quality and godly education that we provide to students in the city of Philadelphia.

By God’s Grace,

Keith Fallon and Marion Clark
Co-chairs, Board of Trustees
