DC Elementary Students Exceed Reading Goal
Congratulations to DC's Elementary students for exceeding the reading goal of 45 million words during the recent Read-A-Thon. The grand total number of words read was 52,523,911!
During the month of February and part-way into March, elementary students were charged under the Wild, Wild West theme to read as many books as possible. After reading, students took computer assessments on their comprehension of the books. If they passed the quiz, their word total was added to the school-wide pool.
A special Wild West Day is planned on March 19 to reward students for their efforts.
Interesting statistics from the month include:
29 students read ½ million words
9 students read 1 million words ( 5 4th graders, 3 5th graders, and 1 2nd grader, Erica Esterly!)
3 5th grade students read 1 ½ million words
1 student read 3 million words!!!!!!
Pre-K and Kindergarten participated by “reading” 100 books. (Their parents read them to them.) These did not count in the word total.
Congratulations, Erica!
