South Street Bridge

This news alert from Penn to its students was sent to me:

The City of Philadelphia has announced that the South Street Bridge will close for reconstruction before the end of 2008. The closure will have considerable impact on accessing the University and the Health System and most likely lead to increased traffic congestion on and around campus. As a result, the University is urging all faculty, staff and students to begin making a plan for commuting to and from campus during the 24-month reconstruction. The University has undertaken a number of initiatives to help you prepare for the Bridge closure including the following:
- South Street Bridge Website: Visit: www.publicsafety.upenn.edu/ssbridge for updates on the Bridge construction, maps of campus, recommended detours and other information about the impact of the Bridge closing on campus as well as University benefits for those who use public transit.
- Help Planning Your Commute: Penn is sponsoring a Commuter Fair designed to help you find alternatives to driving to campus as well as make your commute more affordable and sustainable. Representatives from all local transportation providers will be on hand to help you plan your route. Two sessions are scheduled:
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7
Hall of Flags
Houston Hall
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8
Ravdin Mezzanine
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

As the City releases more project details, updates will be provided on the website. For general questions about the South Street Bridge Project, you can also email: ssbridge@exchange.upenn.edu.
