Pray for Peshawar

We received this from friends in Pakistan:

"Conditions in Peshawar have now reached the point where we are inviting you to join in a day of prayer and fasting for the city. Around Peshawar, both in the tribal area as well as the settled areas, Taliban and their kind have been steadily establishing their control without any real resistance by the government. As we speak, they are knocking on the gates of the city, and everyone is afraid of the city falling to them very soon. The worst part of this seems to be that the government, including the military and the elected officials, aren't doing anything to stop the progress of the militants. Some people even feel that the government has decided to let the militants take the city.

"Seeing the seriousness of this situation, we have no other way to go but to the Lord in prayer. We will fast and pray for Peshawar on Friday, June 27th. Here are some points for prayer:
  • For God's mercy on this city, which is already suffering from so many problems like lack of water, electricity, flour, and huge increases in the cost of living.
  • For the authorities of Peshawar to take a firm stand to defend the city and it's inhabitants from invasion and takeover by outside forces who would impose their own version of Shariat Law.
  • For those who would take the city to be thrown into confusion and division amongst themselves
  • For the Christian community to stand together and unite in prayer and support for those in authority
  • For a spirit of trust and assurance that the Lord will take care of us and not for a spirit of fear.
  • For safety for all of us here in the midst of uncertain times."
