City College and Career
At its Tuesday meeting, the Session approved a name change. Tenth College Union has become City College and Career. This reflects how the ministry has evolved over the years with a mixture of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as young adults recently out of college.
The concern of the Session in considering the change was that this does not signal a subtle shift from ministering to college undergraduates. We will monitor that over the new school year, but meanwhile we accept the change for the following reasons:
One is the development of new PCA churches that are reaching out on city campuses, specifically liberti at Temple and City Church at Penn and Drexel. Tenth is in a new era of cooperation with sister city churches.
Second is the intentional communal mindedness of the ministry. I learned that 40-50 young adults have moved into the area between South Street and Washington for the express purpose of being near the church and promoting community. These young people are intentional about ministering in all levels of undergrads, grads, and career.
Third, the ministry is strengthening its focus on the college campuses in Center City, which reflects the church's focus on Center City. As noted below, Tenth intern Luke Herche, with others, will be leading outreach to the schools nearest the church.
For the next four or five days, Robert Polen and Luke Herche will post their thoughts and plans about CCC. They are working together to provide leadership of the ministry under the direction of Jonathan Olsen. (Jonathan would write but he is on vacation.) Be in prayer for the ministry and for these two men. Both of them have served two years at Tenth as interns and have won the respect of everyone who has benefited from their teaching and discipleship.

Really looking forward to what Luke and Robert will be posting....and thanks for encouraging us to pray for them as they serve in this pivotal ministry
Wow! I think the name change is a great idea, and reflects what the ministry is already doing. I believe that the focus on college students will not be lost. We'll be in prayer for CCC!
