Mother's Day

Men, Mother's Day is this Sunday. Write yourself a note now to buy a card (for your mother AND for your wife, if married with children). Flowers would be nice. She would not mind being taken out for a meal or you preparing a meal.

Also be sure to pray for those women who don't have children but wish they did or who have lost a child to death or miscarriage as this can be a difficult day for them. Pray for God's peace/contentment and healing in their lives. I say this not to negate what you are saying but to encourage us to sensativity with in the body of believers and from personal experience. The first mothers day after losing our first child to miscarriage was hard, my husband (inspired by the Lord) gave me a single flower that day and made a donation in my name to Alpha Pregnancy to mark the occassion. It was a nice touch and reminded me of the needs of others and of God's love.

Why is this announcement directed to men? Don't some women in the congregation also have mothers? Or is it that we are considered more prone to forget? :)

In addition to praying, Mother's Day is also an opportunity to reach out: Men and women, do you know anyone who lost a mother (or stepmother), whether recently or some time ago? Anyone who gave up her child for adoption? Anyone who made a tough choice to keep a child of an unplanned pregnancy? Any woman who is acting as a foster mother? And as S Duggan mentions, anyone who longs for a child, or a woman who lost a child to death or miscarriage? In any of these cases, you can send a card of comfort and encouragement.

Mother's Day is also a good time to send a note or make a call to someone who has lost their mother in the previous year.

(Of course Father's Day is a good time for dads)
