Paul Tripp

The Session is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Paul Tripp as part-time Assistant Minister to Center City. His specific assignment is to lead midweek services. His term will begin in January. The start-up of the services have yet to be determined.

I have eagerly waited to make this announcement as I think it will have a similar effect ten years ago when Tenth brought on a new minister named Phil Ryken. Our new mission statement specifies Tenth's calling to "reach Center City." This service led by Dr. Tripp will be the cornerstone for that outreach.

Paul's 30+ years of ministry has been characterized by a sensitivity to applying the gospel to the culture and to the Christian life. Thus, his ministry will serve a two-fold purpose of kingdom discipleship and outreach to Center City. Along with his teaching, he will be shepherding and mentoring a leadership team to further personal ministry to those who attend and to equip them for their personal witness.

Check out his blogsite (he is presently in India) and website that tell more about his ministry. You can also listen to him on radio on WFIL from 11:00-11:30 am on weekdays.

I am excited to see a renewed focus on Center City. It will be great to see Tenth known at least as well around the corner as it is around the world. I am full of excitement and questions.

What are the geographic boundaries of Center City? Is the historical Philadelphia boundaries of South-Vine, River to River?

Will the Tripps be moving to Center City? It would seem like such a great opportunity given the existing attachments to the arts community and galleries downtown.

What will this mean for the responsibilities of the ministers and elders and deacons and Bible study leaders who live in Center City? How will their/our (if CC extends to Fitzwater) duties change?

I am also eager to know the answers as to how this new ministry will impact the church and our ministry to Center City. The exploration will begin in earnest in 2007 when Dr. Tripp comes on board and the new Center City/Philadelphia Commission is formed. I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for us in the coming year.
