Riedel Lecture

If you are like most people, you have never studied Arabic but you could still probably give a fairly good working definition for words like "sharia," "jihad," "fatwa,” and many other Arabic/Islamic words that are consistently in the news. Are Muslims and American Christians speaking the same language when they use words like "democracy," "freedom," and "God"? Does the American church have more to say to Muslims than Israel = good, enemies of Israel = bad? Does the gospel of Christ have any relevance in a discussion about Muslim political and religious struggle?

To answer any of these questions well, it's necessary to look beyond the headlines into history. Please join us on Friday, July 13, as Dr. Meredith Riedel (former Tenth member) presents her lecture, "What has Isaac to do with Ishmael? The story of the coexistence of Christians and Muslims from CE 622-2012."

The lecture will begin at 7:30 PM and will be followed by Q&A with Dr. Riedel. And after the formal session has ended wine, refreshments, and Dr. Riedel will all be available as the lively discussion continues!
